Cinna-bun Cake
Reminiscent of my mom’s unparalleled cinnamon buns, this Cinna-bun Cake emerged from a longing for her treats during her absence. Our little one fondly calls it “Cinabun Cake.”
Ingredients
Base:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
Topping:
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Glaze:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 5 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Method to Create Cinna-bun Cake
- Preparation: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9×13-inch baking pan by spraying it with non-stick cooking spray or coating it with butter.
- Base Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder. Add the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract, mixing until thoroughly combined. Stir in the melted butter last. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and set aside.
- Topping Mixture: In a small bowl, blend the softened butter, brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon until well combined.
- Assembly: Drop the topping mixture by teaspoonfuls over the base layer, distributing it as evenly as possible. Use a butter knife to swirl the topping into the base, creating a marbled effect.
- Baking: Place the cake in the preheated oven and bake for 28-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Glaze Preparation: While the cake bakes, prepare the glaze by mixing the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until fully combined. Set aside.
- Final Touch: Once the cake is baked, remove it from the oven and immediately drizzle the glaze over the warm cake. Allow the glaze to set before slicing and serving.
This Cinna-bun Cake captures the essence of traditional cinnamon buns in a convenient cake form, perfect for satisfying your cravings with a touch of nostalgia. Enjoy!
