Ingredients

  • 400 ml of milk
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 40g of sugar
  • 15g of cornstarch
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 100g of sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it starts to simmer. Add the lemon zest and vanilla sugar, then remove the saucepan from the heat and let it infuse for 10 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch until smooth and pale yellow in color.
  3. Gradually pour the infused milk into the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from curdling.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens to a custard-like consistency.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the lemon juice and sweetened condensed milk until well combined.
  6. Pour the mixture into individual serving dishes or a large serving bowl, then cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.
  7. Once chilled and set, serve the homemade dessert garnished with fresh fruit, whipped cream, or a sprinkle of grated chocolate, if desired.
