Ingredients:

  • 1 package (14 ounces) Trader Joe’s Chicken Cilantro Mini Wontons
  • 6 cups chicken broth, low sodium preferred
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 medium carrot, julienned or thinly sliced (optional)
  • 2 cups baby spinach leaves
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish
  • Salt and white pepper, to taste

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Broth:

  1. In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  2. Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, green onions, and chopped ginger to the broth.
  3. Allow the broth to simmer for about 5 minutes to infuse the flavors.

2. Cook the Wontons:

  1. Carefully add the Chicken Cilantro Mini Wontons to the simmering broth.
  2. Cook the wontons according to the package instructions, usually for about 4-5 minutes or until they float to the surface.
  3. Be careful not to overcook the wontons, as they can become soggy.

3. Add the Vegetables:

  1. Once the wontons are cooked, add the julienned carrot (if using) and baby spinach leaves to the soup.
  2. Stir gently to combine and allow the vegetables to wilt slightly in the hot broth.
  3. Season the soup with salt and white pepper to taste.

4. Serve:

  1. Ladle the Chicken Cilantro Wonton Soup into bowls.
  2. Garnish each bowl with fresh cilantro leaves for added flavor and aroma.
  3. Serve the soup hot and enjoy!

Cook Notes and Variations:

  • Make-Ahead Option: You can prepare the broth and cook the wontons in advance, then store them separately in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, simply reheat the broth and add the cooked wontons and vegetables.
  • Vegetarian Version: Substitute the chicken broth with vegetable broth and use vegetarian wontons filled with tofu or vegetables.
  • Spice it Up: Add a dash of chili flakes or sriracha sauce to the soup for a spicy kick.
  • Customize the Vegetables: Feel free to add any other vegetables of your choice, such as sliced mushrooms, bell peppers, or snow peas.
