These easy buttermilk biscuits are incredibly soft, tall, flaky, and buttery. Serve them with some jam or gravy for an easy breakfast!

Making these biscuits from scratch is much easier than you might think. All it takes is seven simple ingredients and a bit of effort.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

How To Make Butter Buttermilk Biscuits

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse sand.
  4. Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir just until the dough comes together.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times.
  6. Pat the dough out into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
  7. Using a 2-inch biscuit cutter, cut out as many biscuits as you can and place them on a baking sheet. Gather the scraps, pat them out again, and cut out additional biscuits until all the dough is used.
  8. Bake the biscuits for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy!
