  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)

Making the Biscuits

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (218°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Slowly add buttermilk and stir until the dough just comes together (do not overmix).
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead 3-4 times. Roll it out to ¾-inch thickness and cut biscuits using a round cutter.

Making the Sausage Gravy

  1. In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat, breaking it into crumbles, until fully browned.

  3. Slowly pour in the milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
  4. Season with salt, black pepper, and cayenne (if using), then simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and adjust seasoning if needed.

  1. Split the warm biscuits in half and ladle the sausage gravy generously over them.
