Instructions for Simple Beef Stroganoff
1. Prepare the Beef
- Slice 1 lb steak against the grain into thin strips.
- Season with salt and black pepper.
- Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
- Sear the beef for 1-2 minutes per side until browned, then remove from the pan.
2. Cook the Onions, Garlic & Mushrooms
- In the same pan, add onions and cook until soft (about 3 minutes).
- Stir in garlic and sliced mushrooms, cooking for another 5 minutes until tender.
3. Make the Sauce
- Sprinkle 1 tbsp flour over the mushrooms and stir to coat.
- Slowly pour in 1 ½ cups beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
- Add 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce and 1 tsp Dijon mustard for extra depth.
- Let the sauce simmer for 5 minutes until it thickens.
4. Finish with Sour Cream & Beef
- Reduce heat to low and stir in ½ cup sour cream.
- Add the seared beef back into the pan, stirring to coat.
- Simmer for 2-3 minutes until heated through.
