Description
Don’t toss those overripe bananas! Transform them into a naturally sweet and chewy banana candy with just 4 simple ingredients. It’s a healthy treat your kids (and you!) will absolutely love.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 overripe bananas (the riper, the sweeter!)
- 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (optional, for added sweetness)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for flavor)
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice (to prevent browning)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Bananas:
- Preheat your oven to 80°C (175°F) or set your dehydrator to low heat.
- Peel the bananas and mash them until smooth, or blend them in a food processor for a creamier texture.
- Add honey or maple syrup (if using), cinnamon, and lemon juice to the mashed bananas. Mix well.
2. Spread the Mixture:
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Spread the banana mixture evenly onto the tray, about 1/4-inch thick. Make sure it’s uniform to ensure even drying.
3. Dry the Candy:
- Place the tray in the oven or dehydrator.
- Dry for 6-8 hours (oven) or 4-6 hours (dehydrator) until the mixture is firm but still slightly pliable. Check occasionally to avoid over-drying.
4. Cut into Candy Pieces:
- Remove from the oven or dehydrator and let it cool completely.
- Gently peel the banana sheet from the parchment paper and cut it into strips, squares, or any shape your kids like!
Tips for Success:
- Storage: Store the banana candy in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or in the fridge for longer freshness.
- Add-ins: Sprinkle shredded coconut, crushed nuts, or chia seeds on top before drying for an extra nutrient boost.
- Fun Shapes: Use cookie cutters to create fun shapes for the kids!
This natural banana candy is chewy, sweet, and absolutely guilt-free. Perfect for lunchboxes, snacks, or even as a dessert. Enjoy!
