Description

Learn how to make braised pork ribs that are fall-off-the-bone tender and rich in flavor. Perfect for family dinners or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs pork ribs, cut into individual pieces
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup rice wine or cooking wine
  • 1 cup chicken broth or water
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • Sliced green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ribs: Rinse the pork ribs and pat them dry. Lightly season with salt and pepper.
  2. Brown the Ribs: Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Sear the ribs until golden brown on both sides, then set aside.
  3. Sauté Aromatics: In the same pot, sauté onions over medium heat until softened. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
  4. Make the Sauce: Mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), and brown sugar. Add rice wine and chicken broth, stirring to combine.
  5. Braise the Ribs: Return the ribs to the pot. Add bay leaves, cover, and simmer on low heat for 1–1.5 hours until tender. Stir occasionally.
  6. Finish and Garnish: Add sesame oil (optional) for extra aroma. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Serve over steamed rice to soak up the savory sauce.
  • Pair with stir-fried vegetables or a fresh salad for a balanced meal.
