- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp ground cardamom (optional for added warmth)
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3–4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp lemon juice (to prevent browning)
- 2 tbsp brown sugar (for sprinkling on top)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for sprinkling on top)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Apples
- Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Toss them with lemon juice to prevent browning and set aside.
- Mix the Batter
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and cardamom (if using).
- Combine Dry Ingredients
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
- Assemble the Cake
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
- Arrange the apple slices on top in a circular pattern.
- Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon evenly over the apples.
- Bake
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
- Cool and Serve
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
- Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
