  • Author: M

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom (optional for added warmth)
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 34 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (to prevent browning)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar (for sprinkling on top)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for sprinkling on top)

Instructions

  • Preheat and Prepare
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Apples
    • Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Toss them with lemon juice to prevent browning and set aside.
  • Mix the Batter
    • In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
    • Stir in the vanilla extract and cardamom (if using).
  • Combine Dry Ingredients
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  • Assemble the Cake
    • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
    • Arrange the apple slices on top in a circular pattern.
    • Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon evenly over the apples.
  • Bake
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
  • Cool and Serve
    • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
    • Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
